Michael Carter

MichaelI humbly dedicate my practice to my teachers. Under the guidance of one who has knowledge, Yoga can be revealed. First among the teachers I am indebted to are Paul and Rachelle Gold, the Jois Family, and Yoganand Michael Carroll.

In 1999 I moved to Kripalu to devote two years of my life to the study of Yoga under the guidance of Yoganand Michael Carroll. Learning in a residential setting gave me a unique experience of the practice of Yoga in daily life. During my stay I completed several months of teacher training before receiving Yoganand’s blessing to teach.

In 2001 I started practicing Ashtanga Yoga. My friend Jonathan Austman, who I volunteered with at Kripalu, was teaching in Toronto and invited me to practice with him. His instructions in the Mysore method gave me a strong foundation to build my practice on.

In 2005 I became a student of Paul and Rachelle Gold and took daily practice with them for the next five years. I feel especially blessed and honoured to be their student and consider them to by my primary teachers. Few teachers offer the level of commitment, knowledge and experience that Paul and Rachelle provide.

I have also been fortunate to spend several months practicing under the guidance of Matt Corigliano and in 2006 I completed David Swenson’s Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training.

Following the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga led me to Mysore, India, to study the tradition at the source. It was there, in the summer months of 2007 and 2008, that I deepened my practice at the feet of Sri Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois.
