Next workshop: February 12

Cost: $50 + Hst.
Register and buy your pass here, or contact us at: 613-547-YOGA (9642), info@ feelyogakingston.com, or drop by the studio.

In this three hour immersion, students will be guided towards deeper levels of self awareness by firmly rooting their understanding of the practice in the foundations of mindfulness, as it relates to Yin yoga. In addition, we will examine how to work with The Three Jewels of Buddhism – the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, as a means of deepening our experience of practice. Using the body as a vehicle, we will explore how the mind impacts not only our practice, but also our choices off the mat. Students will be encouraged to reflect on the ways that they find themselves disconnected, off track, or struggling in their daily lives to remain in touch with their true self, or Buddha nature. As a means of harnessing the benefits of the practice and the pathway it creates for finding/maintaining our Dharma, there will be time for reflective writing. Integrated discussion periods will foster the awareness that we are not alone on the path as we aquatint ourselves with the other members of our Sangha.

No experience in yoga or Buddhism is required. Drop-ins are welcome anytime.

Benefits of the Yin practice:

-more ease and flexibility is created in the body – in particular, the hips, legs, lower back;
-increased circulation and reduced swelling in the ankles, knees, and groin;
-relief from anxiety, stress, stiffness and agitation;
-develops created concentration, calm disposition, and steady, focused insight into one’s own true nature.

Who should attend:
-anyone seeking to relax, connect with their body, or stretch deeply;
-those looking for an alternative or complimentary practice, to an active lifestyle or yang style of yoga;
-anyone looking to develop the qualities of the mind to enhance their existing practice, general well-being, or to reduce and learn to deal effectively with stress.

Siobhan McAuley began teaching yoga in 1998 after training at The Kripalu Centre where she lived as a sabbatical resident for over two years. An avid Yin yoga practitioner, Siobhan has been teaching Yin yoga since 2004 when she was first introduced to the practice by fellow Buddhist practitioner, Sarah Powers. Siobhan brought Sarah to Florida in 2006 to teach to the Yin yoga and Tibetan Buddhist community/sangha that was emerging at that time at her studio, Green Tara Yoga. Upon returning to Canada, Siobhan spent four years teaching and fostering the Yin yoga community in Kingston before moving back to her hometown of Toronto last spring. Siobhan is holding this workshop series once a month for her former students and all those wishing to deepen their understanding of the practice of Yin yoga.
